Spring Cleaning

The bits and baubles we're stowing (and reviving) for a more stylish spring.

Spring has sprung, and as much as we'd like to plop down the Visa for a whole new seasonal wardrobe, our barren pockets have us sifting and sorting through the looks we already own.

But we're not only stowing the off-trend looks — we're also resuscitating items from seasons past that feel fresh again.

Here are a few style switcharoos we have in the works...

ACCESSORIES

ROCKS OFF: A vintage turquoise pendant.

STOWING: Diamonds and semi-precious jewels. They not only feel like cold-weather fare, they also feel too early-2000s-luxury to add anything new to our springtime outifts.

BUSTING OUT: Silver-and-turquoise jewelry, a la 60s Robert Plant. The classic rock look's been waiting in the wings for ages, but finally feels now.

FLY GIRL: Ray-Ban Aviators.

STOWING: Ray-Ban Wayfarers. Sure, they're classic (and it wouldn't be the worst thing to still be rocking them come August), but after two years of Wayfarer-mania, we're plastic-framed out.

BUSTING OUT: Classic Ray-Ban aviators. The ones that made Steve McQueen looks so cool and mysterio.

FRINGE FACTOR: Minnetonka moccasin bootie

STOWING: Gladiator sandals. After two years of seasonal dominance, it's time for the strappy shoes to retire.

BUSTING OUT: Moccasins. Soft, suede and symbiotic with pants, skirts and dresses, the classic fringed moc (and moc bootie) from Minnetonka will be adding boho flair to our spring and summer ensembles.

LV

A TRUSTY FRIEND: Louis Vuitton Pochette Accessories, $325.

STOWING: Big canvas totes that say things like "Vote" and "Recycle." This season, we'll let our actions speak for themselves (and haul those bags to Trader Joe's instead of out to dinner).

BUSTING OUT: The logo-clad purses we haven't looked at in years. Nothing obnoxious—the teeny tiny LV pochette we wore every day circa 2001 feels like a good piece to re-enter the somewhat post-recessitory world with. We'll save the monogrammed Gucci luggage for once we've hit a different tax bracket and have Republican neighbors.

YSL

CRYSTAL CLEAR COOL: YSL circa 2003 heels, as worn by Anna Dello Russo.

STOWING: Any shoes that make us look, as our mother always said, like we have "club foot."

BUSTING OUT: Lucite heels in a height that stays tasteful. Because why not?

CLOTHES

GREEN ZONE: J. Crew's shrunken military jacket.

STOWING: Boyfriend blazers. Dude, we're just done.

BUSTING OUT: Army jackets. Military issue, shrunken down to girly proportions. It's the perfect piece to pair add edge to frilly pastel looks this Spring.

FC

GO GO GADGET STYLE: French Connection's Mister Magic coat, $228.

STOWING: Leather jackets. Been there, done that—all year long.

BUSTING OUT: Trench coats. Beige or blue, long or short...we can't get enough of these Inspector Gadget-like jackets on chilly spring nights (or balmy days, for that matter).

BEAUTY

Essie

BETTER THAN A BONET: Essie's Pop Art Pink nail color, $8.

STOWING: Vampy nails be gone. This is that cheery time of year where we prefer not looking like we slammed our hand in a door, thank you very much.

BUSTING OUT: Easter egg pastels, mainly any color by Hard Candy—if only for that groovy plastic ring that comes on the cap.
