Every Sunday, Los Angeles’ most fervent apostles of thrifty DIY style descend on the corner of Melrose and Fairfax, where over 200 independent vendors flaunt recycled furniture, fashion and the occasional oddity. The Melrose Trading Post, supervised by the Fairfax High School administration in conjunction with the Greenway Arts Alliance, is where the cult of cut-and-sew comes to shop, schmooze. Don’t be fooled by their blasé demeanors as they peruse the booths: The MTP patrons are all too eager to pose for the camera and break down the components of their outfits. We spent a sunny afternoon chasing our favorite market-goers from vendor to vendor for the perfect snapshot.
