Street Style: Melrose Ave Shop Kids

When it’s your job to create mystique around the what you sell, you’d better dress up.

"Can I help you?"

It’s funny how the benign inquiry sends most shoppers running for the hills (as a former salesperson, I can attest to this). But we encourage you to reconsider before fleeing — no matter how much that perky salesgirl grates on your nerves. In many local boutiques, it’s worth exchanging pat pleasantries to provide a close-up view of what your salesperson is wearing. You'll likely discover what we have: that shop kids (and we use that term endearingly) are often some of the most well-dressed people in L.A.

A recent jaunt down Melrose Avenue yielded inspiration enough to last us a season. Take stock.
