Emmys 2011: the Good, the Bad and the Heinous
Perhaps we've been spending too much time playing with vintage Nolan Miller jackets and wishing we were Blanche Devereaux, but this year's Emmys produced some seriously snooze-worthy looks.
Yes, there were lots of primary colors and a solid stable of sexy, daring red gowns. But few looks stood out. And too many gowns resembled what you'd find in a department store formalwear section (which is cool if your cousin is getting married at the St. Louis Hilton, not so much if you're attending TV's biggest night).
Our unfiltered thoughts on the good, bad and heinous of the 2011 Emmys:
The Good
Fringe star Anna Torv's Lorraine Schwartz earrings were beautiful. The dress? Meh.
Katie Holmes' blue, silk Calvin Klein column dress was a stunner.
Gretchen Mol's plum-berry lipstick, which contrasts perfectly with her emerald green earrings, has us swooning.
Evan Rachel Wood's sweeping Elie Saab gown and 1920s finger-wave hair — a departure from the dirty hipster persona she's been sporting as of late — captured Old Hollywood glam.
Michael Bolton. Admit it — he's looking good.
Jerry Fererra's slick suit. When did Turtle turn hotter than Vince??
Downton Abbey's Jessica Brown-Findlay. We could not love love love that dress any more.
The Bad
13 year-old Ariel Winter's boobs. When we were the Modern Family star's age, we wanted to show off our, uh, "new hardware" too. But then again we only had Seventeen magazine as guidance, not our pick of any A-list Hollywood stylist who really should have known better. Rule of thumb: Braces and boobs aren't a great combo.
Alan Cumming's floral-print pants. Quirky isn't always cool.
Kid Cudi's casualness at the HBO party. Pretty low-rent if you ask us. And if he was going to wear spray-on jeans, he probably should have worn a plaid shirt instead of that velvet button-down situation. Just sayin'.
The Heinous
Olivia Munn's grass-green getup. This look was contentious in the office: Emili was digging; Erin was a player hater, saying "Seriously, who did she sleep with to get the amount of work she does — and is he, uh, currently looking for another 'date'?"
David Boreanaz's not-so-dapper hair 'do. Johnny Depp you ain't.
Paz de la Huerta's....face.
