LAFW: What We've Seen, So Far
With gas nearing $4.50 a gallon, we've become particularly selective when taking trips farther than Trader Joe's. And this LA Fashion Week has not been kind to our gas budget with a slew of events worth checking out.
Here's our take on what we've hit up, thus far. And it's only Thursday (at this rate, we'll fully be forced to travel on foot by the weekend. Get your act together, Libya).

LEATHER AND SILK: A look from Kolae's fall, 2011 collection goes down the Directives West First LA runway.
What: Directives West First LA runway show at the California Market Center
The deets: On Monday night, trend Forecasting Firm Directives West presented the third incarnation of their contemporary runway show, First LA. And as a new twist to this season's festivities, the firm asked stylist Laurie Brucker, former Russian Vogue editor Hellin Kay and Style Section L.A. publisher Erin Weinger (uh, that's us) to style one designer as part of the show. We chose Kolae, a new-ish leather and chiffon-filled line that we talked about on The Spiel blog before the show. And the pieces co-existed perfectly with velvet and suede-detailed skinny pants by J Brand, cool chunky knit dresses by YuYu and Working Girl-esque, high neck silk dresses by Whitney Eve — all of which were styled by professional runway man Vincent Boucher (who you probably want styling your fashion show over us).
The highlight: It's hard to say which was hotter — the glittery, open-toe platforms Whitney Port wore while watching her Whitney Eve collection come down the catwalk or her boyfriend, Buried Life star Ben Nemtin. Why don't we just take both and call it a day?

What: A party for Rag & Bone designer David Neville at Intermix on Robertson
The deets: A bevy of Rag & Bone's brightest Hollywood fans showed their support for designer David Neville at a crowded cocktail soiree on Tuesday evening. The likes of Drew Barrymore, Anna Kendrick, Mena Suvari and Malin Akerman drank beer and swooned over Rag & Bone's exclusive-to-Intermix jade-colored denim, tribal maxi skirts and thin knit tops. While Neville, who won the 2010 CFDA Award for Best Menswear designer along with partner Marcus Wainwright, was only staying in our fair city for a matter of hours, he was extremely impressed with the Intermix fete. And, apparently, our weather. "The sun is fucking amazing," he said while sipping a Peroni. "I think people in L.A. take it for granted." That we do, sir. That we do.
The highlight: The bug-eyed look on Mena Suvari's face as she crossed paths with a guest who, too, was wearing Rag & Bone's long, watercolor-hued Bequia skirt. Also, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills husband Mauricio Umansky (aka Mr. Kyle Richards), who pulled up in his Porsche, dashed inside wearing a perfectly cut suit and an equally as faultless smile and gave us a glimpse of what we desperately hope our future entails.
