There's no telling what Rachel Zoe, Jen Rade and the other super-stylists will be draping their "girls" in at this year's Golden Globes, taking place this Sunday here in Los Angeles.

But we hope they're no longer motivated simply by keeping their clients off the tabloids' Worst Dressed lists — because by now it should be common knowledge that unless a dress is plainer than a pancake, those fashion hacks are gonna disparage it. And playing it super-safe, in the end, doesn't amount to a memorable look.

And we're in the reminiscing mood — ready to take a look back at some of the most gorgeous, unique gowns in recent Globes history. Let us know if you agree, or if we've missed your favorite.

Reese Witherspoon was freshly divorced from Ryan Phillipe when she turned up in his stunning, short dress by Olivier Theyskens, just as he was starting his short-lived tenure at Nina Ricci. Nominated for best actress for Walk the Line, it was basically the hottest actress wearing the hottest designer on the hottest night of 2007. Destiny. And the bod-con look tidily put an end to all those puffy, achitectural dresses that had been circulating for years.

Rachel Zoe poured Anne Hathaway, nominated for Rachel Getting Married, into this liquid-cool Armani Prive gown for the 2009 Globes, and she's never looked better. Navy was all the rage that year, but it looked the best playing off super-fair skin.

Diane Kruger went out on a limb with this hot-pink Christian Lacroix Couture gown at the 2010 awards — and while the likes of Joan Rivers panned it, we saw it for what it was: pure confectionary beauty from a couture master. It was also a touching moment because Lacroix was in the midst of a financial crisis, having to contemplate closing his business. It was ultimately bought and saved, and Kruger certainly helped matters by wearing the gown.

Not everyone can pull off Lanvin, but Kristin Scott Thomas looked radiant in a champagne-hued Lanvin gown for the 2009 show. The key to her success: A flawless fit. Not to mention designer Alber Elbaz' surreally superb draping up top.

And speaking of flawless, Laura Linney — who's not known as a fashion plate — got some good advice for the 2009 awards when she donned this buttery Elie Saab chiffon gown featuring a bejeweled waistband. Perfectly age-appropriate and wholly breathtaking.

Cameron Diaz doesn't take risks on the red carpet like she used to — but back in 2007 she rocked this tiered ballet-style Valentino with dark hair and red lips — a look we just couldn't get enough of.
