MTV Video Music Awards 2010: Young Hollywood Gets it Right
"Every year something exciting happens at the VMAs," said Chelsea Handler, host of last night's MTV Video Music Awards, during her opening monologue. "But I'm scared most that this year, everybody — all of you idiots — will get their acts together."
The show kind of sucked. But according to the fashion, Handler was right.
Young Hollywood, who, at times, can double for Santa Monica Blvd. street walkers in an attempt to look "edgy", brought out the polish in a major way. And though some of the formal wear was more fitting for a carpet where the cast of Jackass would be banned, most attendees managed to keep their looks young and spicy enough for a show targeted to the Me generation.
Here are a few favorite outfits from the evening.

Emma Stone in Pucci
The Easy A actress looked awesome, simple and sultry. And we aren't just saying that because she's a fellow redhead. Extra points for the bold-colored clutch.

Coco Rocha in Zac Posen
Ok she's a model, she gets paid to look this good. But this flowing Posen gown was a very welcome departure from the hoochie dresses so often seen at these things. And for that, we must give mad props.

Florence Welch in Givenchy Couture
The Florence and the Machine leader looked striking in this gilded gold creation. Again, for an awards show where carpets of the past have come complete with jeans, T-shirts and a lot of polyester, this Oscar-caliber gown is a major, major step up.

Selena Gomez in Reem Acra
Holy bombshell in the making, batman. We've always loved Gomez for her cute little shift dresses and her angelic face. But this silver stunner takes the tween queen to a new level — the lovely world of adulthood. Welcome.

Vinny Guadagnino in, uh, something besides Christian Audigier
Sure, the Jersey Shore lad is a shade too tan and has better eyebrows than we do. But without his crystalized, bedazzled T-shirts, he actually looked really good and very un-granade-like. Whoever styled him deserves their pay, for sure.
