When it comes to celebrity makeup artists, Pati Dubroff is a total queen bee. Emma Watson, Julianne Moore and Drew Barrymore are but a few of the fine-boned faces she's beautified — and as the newly annointed Clarins Celebrity Make-up Artist, she's primed to powder at least a few major celebs for the Academy Awards (though she wisely declined to name names — those famous gals can be fickle.)

Still, if anyone has the scoop on what fresh beauty looks will be gracing Oscar's red carpet, it's Dubroff, who worked with Moore at last weekend's Golden Globes. We caught up with the talented transformer to pick her brain on Awards Season beauty.

FRESH FACED: Gwyneth Paltrow — made up by DuBroff — at the IronMan premiere.

Style Section L.A.: What beauty trends do you expect we will be seeing a lot of this season?

Pati DuBroff: This season we'll see color for sure. [That] mean a flash of a bright or coral lip, a soft wash of a pastel on the eye or a touch of a bright liner. We'll also see rich and sheer colors for lip — think deep rose or sheer berry.

When a color is introduced to the face it brightens and feels more joyful. The overall vibe is amped-up-natural. Also we will see gorgeous lashes, but accentuated with lots of mascara and individual lashes.

What red carpet looks do you feel are past their prime?

Heavy smokey eyes with glossy lips is dated and full-on retro with a red lip and a winged eye looks like a parody. Too many heavy and muddy colors look sad, and full sets of fake lashes looks wrong and old!

HOT LIPS: Kate Bosworth — in DuBroff's makeup — at the Style Awards.

How can us regular folks amp up our beauty regimens to look more "celebrity flawless"?

Celebs take very good care of their skin. Using high quality skincare is key to having that flawless radiant skin. How you prepare the skin for foundation is also crucial to looking "red-carpet" ready. Two products that are a must —  Clarins Instant Smooth, to even the texture around nose and fine lines and to mattify, and Beauty Flash balm to lift, brighten and firm the skin.

What are the biggest mistakes people make on the red carpet when it comes to makeup?

A big mistake is wearing too much makeup. The red carpet is during the day — and shown on HD — so less is definitely more. A heavy dark smokey eye is going to read to severe. Lips should not be overly glossed — it looks trashy! Also don't forget to powder the T-zone. And again, that does not mean pancake makeup, it means fine dustings of powder.

There have been a lot of retro-looking beauty looks on the carpet lately — do you like retro? Which ones do you like the best?‪

The best retro looks are ones that are not so literal. It's best to not do the hair, the eye and the lip. It becomes too over the top, too much of a caricature. It's best to take one element, play that up and keep the rest modern.
