L.A.'s East Side is famous for its street fashion — and nowhere is it on better display than at the coffee huts dotting its neighborhoods. From Silver Lake's Intelligentsia to downtown's Groundwork Coffee, the sunny patios of these indie destinations are always spilling over with tastemakers in casual-cool gear that ranges from punked-up preppy to pretty-as-a-picture prairie (though American Apparel, not surprisingly, seems to be the common denominator). We cornered some of the best-dressed for a quick tête-à-tête.

Costa and Carly, Intelligensia

Costa wears: Hollister button-front shirt, customized Abercrombie and Fitch jeans, self-customized shoes from Japan, Versace sunglasses

Carly wears: Sosume T-shirt, Insight shorts, Samantha Wills pearls, scarf and shoes from Sydney

Both recommend: Vintage stores on 6th Street in downtown L.A. for late-night shopping

Shana, Groundwork Coffee

Shana wears: Melissa Masse dress, vintage 70s turtleneck, red tights, Kenneth Cole shoes, earrings from the Farmers Market and Gucci sunglasses

Recommends: Preschool sample sales for chic clothes that some young mothers can live without, but others covet

Rachel, Alcove Cafe and Bakery

Rachel wears: Rodin dress, Target tights, Van shoes and vintage scarf and sunglasses

Recommends: Shareen Vintage for a personal vintage shopping experience

Matt, Intelligentsia

Matt wears: American Apparel top, Corpus jeans, Toms shoes, necklace from the Hollywood flea market and Diesel bag

Recommends: L.A. brand Endovanera for its bold take on menswear

A close-up on Matt's groovy Toms shoes.

Deborah, Intelligentsia

Deborah wears: BDG cardigan, striped shirt from Urban Outfitters, American Apparel leggings, Nike sneakers

Recommends: Undefeated in Silver Lake for its fantastic collection of kicks
